About Yola
Adamawa state, also known as the land of beauty was created on 27th August 1991 from the then Gongola state. It is surrounded by Bornu, Gombe, Taraba states and the Cameroun republic respectively. It is made up of 21 local governments, with its seat of government in Jimeta, also known as Yola south.
Adamawa state is basically a mountainous land mass transversed by river valleys of Benue, Gongola and Yedsarem. The valleys of Cameroon, Mandara and Adamawa mountains form part of its unique landscape.
Its cultural heritage is highly reflective in their craftsmanship, dances, music and dress patterns. The three main religions are Islam, Christianity and Traditionalism. The major languages spoken are english, hausa and fulani.
The major occupation of the people is farming. Crops that are grown include maize, yam, cassava, guinea corn, millet and rice.
It is located in the north eastern part of the country as shown in the map below.
It also has historical places of interest like the Lamido’s Palace (the seat of Emir of Adamawa in Yola, three sister rock of Song LGA, Old Palace of Harriman Yaji at Madagali German rule, German Rest House at Kowogol) and a host of other places.
Adamawa state is home of one of the most prestigious International Universities in the world. It is known to be generally riot free and good relationship exists between the three religions in the state. Many visitors in the past has noted the people of Adamawa state as friendly.
